This recently developed 5-day expedition to the virgin Amazone rainforest via the Gran Rio River is an absolute must for nature lovers who’d like to be challenged. After a one hour flight you’ll arrive at Jungle Lodge Awarradam. Awarradam is the name of the small, idyllic resort on an island in the Upper Suriname River and is situated at the base of a great rapid. You’ll find yourself at a half hour distance from the habitat of the Saramaccans, the biggest Maroon community in Suriname.
From Awarradam lodge you’ll start the vibrant expedition across the Gran Rio River. During the boat trip in a dugout canoe to the basecamp you’ll come across diverse and sometimes spectacular rapids. The view you’ll experience after the considerable and beautiful jungle trip is absolutely breathtaking. During this tour you’ll spend the night at a hammock camp. The last night of this expedition will be spend in traditional houses at Jungle Lodge Awarradam. After the exciting expedition a visit to the local Jungle Spa is highly recommended.
