This day you will experience is a unique combination of Aucan culture and (modern) art.
The trip starts in Paramaribo where leave by bus to Moengo. A small and friendly village along the Cottica River will be visited, a 30-minute boat ride from Moengo. The people are very welcoming. The village is picturesque, and here are still some authentic cultural elements preserved of different periods, which the locals proudly cherish. The women still bake the cassava bread as it has been done for 150 years and they do crafts. There is heart for the village and a strong community feeling. You will feel welcome.
We go back to Moengo and after a delicious lunch with a Surinamese creole dish and special side dishes, we explore Moengo further. You will learn about the inspiring developments in the field of art to which it becomes clear how much impact it has on the youth in Moengo. The museum of modern art has a lot of parallels between the Maroon culture and modern art, so it will emphasize the things you’ve seen in the morning even more. The last spot of the day is the Moengo Craftshop, the local owner of this shop offers unique products made by the local people from the area. She and her young students will also perform a traditional dance demonstration
